where the timid things go ….

They slept soundly whilst I stumbled out the front door of our holiday home into the early dawn.

All darkness and dry leaves.

Following the sandy path that twisted and twirled across the headland I came to the edge of a cliff that overlooked the pacific ocean.

Standing on the edge, letting my vertigo tease me,I watched the darkness fade to gold.

History unfolding chromatically in front of me.

I wanted to fall so much,

fall forever.

I turned and walked back,

to find that coffee was waiting,

and it was still hot.
